I suddenly have the feeling that these so-called “magical jewels” would be the reason that Dark Matter started wanting jewels in general. And yes, I know that he stole crystals in Kirby 64, but crystals and jewels are basically the same thing. Jewels are a subcategory of crystals.

Technically, Puyo Puyo is actually a spin-off of the Madou Monogatari series, a set of dungeon-crawling RPGs made by COMPILE. The original Puyo Puyo dev put the MM cast in because he thought people would accuse him of copying Dr. Mario, so he added Arle and Carbuncle to make it seem more unique.
