Basically, the palette works like this: Line 1 - Sonic/Tails (or Knuckles if playing as him), Robotnik, most General Objects and Monitor Screens Line 2 - Rings & Ring Screens, Badniks, Knuckles, Boss Units Line 3 - Foreground Line 4 - Background Each line has 16 colors, with one of those being the transparency. As Sonic's blue shades occupied a key part of the line, and the rest of it taken up with objects or the other colors on Sonic, there was no room for Knuckles' palette on the same line. So it went to the second line, where the green was affected by the gold color of the ring. This is much more pronounced when fighting him in Hidden Palace Zone. |
