Edit: I wasn't trying to imply the team here did this for me, or anyone in particular. I was simply expressing gratitude for something that should've been done three weeks ago. In case you want to argue with me, my stance is that BLM is not a noble cause. Of course black lives matter, and of course black people getting treated worse than anyone else by cops is an important issue; nobody (or at least nobody sane) would ever argue either of those points. However, BLM, the organization, are terrorists. I shouldn't be the one that has to bring that to light, people should be doing their own research instead of just blindly following what any organization *says* they're all about, especially activists like this. BLM and Antifa share scores of members; that should be all the evidence I need to present. If you look into the organization's past, as well, you'll see that people generally had a bad impression of them, and then when all this George Floyd crap happened, some people with an agenda took advantage of the loud idiots, and suddenly everyone gets their butts blasted wide open if they say anything negative about BLM or Mr. Floyd, who, may I remind you, is still a criminal, regardless of how he was treated. Should he have died? No. He should've been incarcerated. He should be in jail, not the ground. If you have a problem with that stance, then I offer a kind expletive to you, which I will not type here, because this comment section is not age restricted. I didn't want to bring this back up, if I'm being honest. The staff on this site need to act in a more professional manner. For what it's worth, this edit was made while seven comments total existed in the thread. Edit 2: It appears Frebblo has deleted their comment. It was something to the tune of "Thanks for your opinion, now please shut up." While it was just as unprofessional as Dazz's comment about the update text continuing as it always has not being specifically to please me, I disagree with the cowardice behind the decision to delete the comment. I've visited this site for as long as I can remember. Back before being part of The VG Resource and all that jazz, way before many of the current moderators and front page posters were a part of this site, many site revamps ago. I don't intend to show my creds or anything, or post any more than a single time on this site, and I don't intend to visit this space anymore after this one last time. But there are some things I feel I need to say beforehand: -Yes, I wrote all this 72 hours ago since I registered this account. Yes, it is a throwaway account. Yes, I have too much time in my hands, but I think it's time worth investing since... -I've seen this site impressively grow in numbers and quality and reach since I was a wee lad doing awful spritework out of my own devotion to videogames. It's been a go-to place for me for probably as long as I learned what a sprite was, probably somewhere since 15 years ago or so. No, I do not nor do I have ever wished to be part of the community since a particular, one-time incident, but I have still seen checking up on this site as a daily commute, and I would consider myself a devoted visitor. I grew up with this site, like someone would grow up watching a TV show or living with a house pet. So... -I find it very disappointing that, among many things, the staff of this site has collectively decided to turn a once professional site into their blog the moment so many other places on the internet have decided to foster a stifling environment for those that don't wholly identify with (or worse, question) their specific points of view. What used to be a site that stuck to doing its best at what it intended to do, and did it so stellarly, couldn't withstand the collective pressure amongst those of an specific spectrum, and caved in to put aside its once professional behavior for the sake of vapid and enfranchised strife that serves nobody concerned with the craft displayed here. -The most disappointing thing is not even just this: it's the common practice amongst those on this specific spectrum, and amongst all these spaces on the internet, to strongarm those around them into a guilt trip, completely disregard all the facts of the situation around the world (especially those that put said specific point of view in a non-praising light), and to say the exact same thing to people like me, that have supported this site from the spectator seats but don't agree with their hard turn onto specific opinion: "if you don't like it, then leave and never come back". And doubling down on it. A tremendous display of pettyness, lack of concern for all facts on the matter, and lack of respect for arguments that might put theirs in jeopardy. -How does this fare for users *like me*? Well, if we go with similar situations and experiences across many other spaces on the internet, there's no reason to argue against these actions since it won't change the decissions made or the minds of people that push for this kind of stuff. There's also no reason to threaten or predict or even hope for the "downfall" of any of these sites, as many people like me learn to just stay quiet and accept this stifling environment, rather than try to rally and hurt these spaces' and people's livelihoods, like how they do it to those that do rally and speak out against this. So really, most just look at the broken glass with concern and disappoint. You won't notice this, because these actions harbour unresponsiveness from those that disagree, and mobilize those that do agree. Hell, this probably reinforces your beliefs: "we're doing the right thing, many are validating our opinion!". Short-sighted, and expected. -Then what's one to do? Just as you say: leave and never come back. Not with a bang, but with a whimper and a heavy heart. Accept the reality that many of the places that used to be safe for everybody (because of their commitment to not take sides on vapid strife) are now actively alienating some users, for what a small number of users see as "right", no matter the facts of reality. Don't get me wrong or put intentions into my post: I do NOT mean to make a bang out of this, but I will exercise my right to show my concern for the direction of a site I've dedicated years to keep my eye on, out of that same dedication to defend what you grew up with, for as long as I anonimously can without being statutorily persecuted like many do in my country of origin for their dissenting ideas, something you could only dream of in your worst nightmares from the safety of your metropolis. |
