Well I don't know what things your friend was saying to them, of course more simple sentences will always work better for the game, but I haven't ever seen many people complain about it, nor have I found it a very consistent issue when playing. |

@Nega All I know is when watching my bestie attempt to do a serious run of it, stuff like that kept happening. That was a standout example and a particularly bad one considering the game's plot. |

@Doc von Schmeltwick An oversight? I never said the game's system is perfect, I'm saying that it is way too complex to be called "primitive". The game just interpreted what you said as "I love you". Taking a once in a blue moon example and using it as justification to discredit the game is unfair if you ask me. For a game made in the time it was made in, you'd expect it to have WAY more oversights like this, yet it rarely ever happens. Even now this game would be VERY hard to code, which is why no one has bothered trying to remake it or do a game with the same system to this day, think about that. |

I imagine they just thought "we wanted two guys carrying him up" and they already had graphics for Mario, and/or thought it wouldn't look as good if there was a different character used just for the intro. |
