@RiffOsci (chuckles) There are some free games that have fantastic high quality artwork and don't mean free to play either while there are paid games that have artwork as bad as you see right here. Even discounting low budget stuff like Phoenix Games, the likes of say Mega Turrican (full priced or close to full priced Genesis game, now a classic) had bad artwork for the intro of the game or the Saturn port of The House of the Dead where there was a fair amount of placeholder graphics due to ran out of time making the game uglier than it should. It all depends on the artists skill and the time, money too if it was a commercially sold game.

(Besides since it is open source, doesn't stop someone coming up with a better design and add it as a pull request, mentioning the resemblance to Egghead Jr as the reason for the change.)

I've seen so much traced artwork from no budget games like this, budget games on the home computers all the way to full priced games, on the covers (usually if it's fantasy either rips off Conan the Barbarian or Boris Vallejo), in the games, even classics such as Metal Gear 2 had to change nearly all the portraits because they traced from actors (Konami just happened to have some good pixel artists at the time, the replacements haven't adapted as well even if they are more fitting for the series and done by the main artist). Oh and there was the time that BioWare had to change one of the assets in Mass Effect 3, as in a full price $60 game that you have to spend extra on the DLC (excluding the Legendary Edition on the PS4/Xbox One & Series where most should be bundled).

Eh, that's how open-source games are. Low quality, no offence. Paid games tend to have more high-quality content.

It looks like they took screenshots of the cartoon and traced over him, that would explain why it's drawn so poorly

@Shadowman He does bear a striking resemblance to Egghead Jr., yes.

Did they recolor a Looney Tunes character? I swear I've seen a character like this before.
