Weird how the 2 keys are slightly different from each other instead of being straight recolors.

In versions of Wolf3D released after the competition was cancelled, a duplicate of SPR00044 "Bones 3" was put in the place of the "AARDWOLF" sign. It's a bit sloppy, as you can see it was pasted twice (once a little to the left, then in the right spot), resulting in the pixels being duplicated to the left.

For those interested in the "CALL APOGEE SAY 'AARDWOLF'" message: it was hidden in a pushwall maze in E2M8 and was made for a planned competition where the first person to call Apogee (the publisher) and say "aardwolf" would win a lifetime supply of the full versions of all of Apogee's games. The competition fell through when the developers realized that people were pretty likely to crack the game open and scrapped the competition.

The aardwolf is an animal related to hyenas. Also, the sprite in question was intended for a competition that never got made. Here's a video on how the find the secret.
