@Rusyn it CAN absolutely be on the SNES. I'm currently arranging such port. The hardest part is audio, esp. the ambient loops and teleport maze sfx. Split one BGM into multiple samples, overlay them, use the "dolby surround" feature, and that'll do the trick I guess. After audio there are rich backgrounds. Each of those can make use of 64 colors, or 4 16-color palettes, and that's the maximum without resorting to mode 7 (looks alright). Sprites are like the easiest part after interface, though all the nexus doors and effect eggs will maybe require some palette swapping.
FACE is just one image with different palettes. Aztec Rave Monkey is the same. Sewer drawings use scaling, that's unachievable, but not much do we lose. The Monoko event will use mode 7.

This could be a weird question, but why are the sheets for this game and .flow ripped straight from the files without adjusting for duplicate sprites? I think the best example of what I mean is mainly the charset sprites for Madotsuki containing four rows of the same sprites, like Madotsuki switching which hand she holds the Knife in. Seems kind of redundant if you ask me.

Something tells me Toby Fox must really love the hell out of acid trip-like games like this one and EarthBound.

Could you even call this a horror game? Besides Uboa, I can't really think of anything that could really be classified under that. Sure, the game has an overall pretty gloomy and jarring atmosphere, but I don't think it's to scare the player. It's more surrealistic than anything.

When your dreams are nightmares and the doors in your room lead to nowhere, you know you've gone too far and that you can't go back anymore.

I wouldn't really call it a "horror" game. It does get pretty eerie at times, but there's very few actually scary things.

I don't think Yume Nikki could get a bigger fandom that it already has being such an old game.
All possible theories have been already written.
All memes have been already made.
Let's Plays have been already recorded and uploaded.
All fanart (even the most questionble ones) have been already drawn.

Being on Steam means nothing, newcomers are getting an eaten carcass.

@Kendotlibero

I agree it's too slow. As I personally almost gave up with the game when I first played until I found the bicycle.

YN itself is pretty much a walking simulator, with the slow pace. Due to this, I think many who see it will be turned off by the game.

Either way, I don't really have any opinion on what Matpat may do, as I've learnt to just ignore things I have no interest of.

Speaking of the Steam release, I finally beat it. And it seems to be pretty buggy, with some assets being broken (such as the save file theme) due to what seems like incompetence by whoever compiled it, as they misnamed some files.

Also, the game is installed twice for what seems to be little reason.

@Filler Imho YN it too much of a slow paced game to actually attract mainstream coverage, and it's more unsettling than spooky, so not much reaction videos are possible.
And honestly i'm taking the MatPat Game Theory if it means more people will do fanart or fangames of it.

@Kendotilbero

They actually made the Yume Nikki subreddit private to stop this "flood" of newcomers.

Some of them are afraid Matpat will send waves of younger players to the their fandom because of a possible Game Theory video relating it to Undertale or something, which is 100% predictable, too.

eh, the fandom is pretty worried about newcomers ruining the fandom.
I've been there with touhou and ingress, litterally nothing will happen

@Random Talking Bush

Wouldn't be surprised, honestly, the post did seem very troll-bait like. Maybe it's just because I'm always a bit worried about things that mess up PCs, but I've decided to take it up mostly for word.

Also, it'd be almost impossible for a Steam game to install malware directly, though, indirect installs are sometimes common if you play on bad servers on games.

Edit: Been looking at the Steam discussions in whole. It's clear the only "victim" of this "malware" is a troll, and the rest are false-positives from an anti-virus. In general, it seems like the discussions page for the game has became a troll-fest pretty quickly.
