@Austin They were gonna call her "Hildy" in the first draft, then they went with Daisy and just stuck with it. The name "Peach" didn't exist in Western media yet since she was initially localized as "Toadstool" and that'd have been too weird for a character that grew up in New York.

@Berd Definitive Edition That brings a significant question to mind: Why didn't the movie just use Peach in the first place? She pretty much has 2 replacements in the film, with Daisy embodying her damsel-in-distress role, already being a relatively obscure character that only appeared in Super Mario Land as a mainline game character at the time, and a completely new character named Daniella, replacing Peach as Mario's girlfriend. I feel like both of those roles could've been put into one character, that being Peach. I am yapping over something I have no control over that happened before I was even born lol
