Petie
Last week, Ton left you with a simple message - Black Lives Matter. This isn’t just a statement, a group of protesters, or a movement; it’s a fact and one that’s unfortunately being regularly ignored. It’s sad that this even needs to be said in 2020 but I think the current state of the country makes it clear that not everyone is on the same page.

I’d like to quickly address the negativity displayed in the comments of last week’s update. Neither we nor anyone else using the phrase “Black Lives Matter” is suggesting that they matter more. They don’t claim that they’re the only victims of police brutality or the only targets of ignorance, hate, and racism. They simply want an end to the systemic racism they experience on a day-to-day basis, especially at the hands of the police, and that is something that everyone should be able to agree with unequivocally.

So I’ll leave you with this: We at The VG Resource stand with Black Lives Matter and against racism and police brutality. The changes they’re pushing for will benefit everyone and they deserve the justice they’re seeking. If these statements somehow offend you, nobody is forcing you to stay but remember this moment when you find yourself on the wrong side of history. And if you are choosing to be on the wrong side of history and are in fact just racist, do us all a favor and leave.

No new content will be highlighted in this update out of respect and in an effort to avoid distracting from the issue at hand. Instead, take a look here to see how you can help if you feel so inclined.

And now you're resorting to telling a complete stanger to "Get fucked" because he disagrees with you. Wow. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Sketch_Turner95 I don't care how "civil" you think you're being. Posting untrue garbage is an act of aggression, and letting you keep said garbage on this site implies that your ignorance is equal to informed opinions. It is not. You have no good-faith argument based in reality, and allowing your ignorance and
fear-mongering to stay on this platform would make us complicit in your opinion.

In the name of civil discourse: Get fucked.

I'm not "trolling". I'm just pointing out the vitriolic disdain the admins have for CIVIL DISCOURSE. That fact that you had to edit my joke comment with an insult instead of bing an adult about it, is quite telling about yourself.

@Sketch_Turner95 Well, stop saying dumb shit and we won't have this problem.

your concern trolling won't work here.

Well as White Man Ton, you just took away the voice of Asian/ Hispanic because he disagreed with you. Looks kind of iffy to me.

Just because it's a Sprite website, doesn't mean it can't have posts pertaining to the wider world. Yes, people come here for sprites, but that doesn't mean that all the bad things in the world isn't happening while they do that, and it should be highlighted that where the website stands in current events. In fact, I'd venture as far to say that it's pretty gorramn arrogant to say "Oh, cool, sprites, much nicer to look at than the terrible terrible things I'm seeing on the news box that emits lights and sound".

What really gets my fucking goat is how compared to the posts that had references to Covid didn't really get all that much bother, but as soon as the staff - quite rightly - stands for BLM and shows support, suddenly people are in a tizzy over a human rights issue, sourced from centuries of injustice. But no, sprites are somehow more important than basic human decency and standing for the right thing. How can you be so narrow-minded?

Hate to break it to you nay-sayers, but the internet isn't actually a place to run away and hide because reality is a bunch of BS at the moment. It has a few distractions but let's be honest: distractions are temporary, reality is permanent. And the reality is, we're in the midst of one of the worst things to occur in our lifetime, that has permeated every way of life, with something terrible having occurred during the passage of many lifetimes, that has again culminated in the protests that we see. Black Lives do Matter. That is a fact. This is a human rights issue that should permeate every way of life just like Covid did, because it's been around way longer and effects so many people.

As for the lack of sprites in the update. So. WHAT? Petie stated above front and center, the content isn't being highlighted out of respect. If that's a problem, well, with all due respect, that's on you.

Editing a post you disagree with to suppress a minority's opinion? For shame @Ton
I was gonna be civil about this, but editing my post was a bad idea.

@Dazz ... Wow... Just wow... Someone says you're unprofessional, then you reply with "get fucked"?... Yeah, that tells me a lot man, I think I'm done with this place... Those unused Battletoads sprites will be the last thing you get from me.

@Luigifan1115 Deuces.

To everyone saying they come here to escape: The fact that you're able to cut yourself off from the horrors happening around the world and pretend it doesn't exist means that maybe you should take some time to see how other, less-fortunate people have to live every day.
We will be getting back to "normal" soon on this site. Other people, especially minorities, don't have that luxury.

Imagine being so upset by 4 paragraphs about treating people with respect, bringing the downtrodden up in society, trying to correct the faults of your ancestors, that you have to try and find a reason that you shouldn't be reminded of your racist country. Petie and I run this website, and it is our platform - if you don't like that, feel free to bugger off. To SonicStorm478 there - unprofressional? I've been running this website since I was a child, I have never been professional - good for me, because I fucking hate bigotted, racist, sexist, offensively ignorant assholes who don't think they're involved in the mistakes of those who came before them. If my lack of professionalism makes them uncomfortable, good.

Get perspective. Get over yourself. This is a sprite website, yes, but it is also home to many hundreds of thousands of eyes, and it is ours. If you don't like us giving our word on human rights, I don't care, get fucked, and leave. If you wish to discuss the topic, that's great - but telling us what we can and can't do on our frontpage? Who do you think you are? You don't have to participate. You don't need to comment to rebute our attempts to help a struggling community. You don't need to submit to our site. You don't need to view the content on it. If you aren't happy about what's happening here because you want to ignore for the upset sweeping the world, I'm not happy for you to be here. I'm not going to ban you, I'm going to let you be the bigger person and leave on your own accord.

I'm not telling you to align your opinions and thoughts up with mine, but only to listen and be respectful. Again, you don't need to get involved if you don't want to, you bring your own mispleasure onto yourself - something that the black community can't say for themselves.

Honestly, I wouldn't have minded it if it had sprites attached. Then the message is optional for people who actually want to see this.

Oh man... This mess is getting outta hand real fast... Everybody's fighting like cats and dogs! Uuugh... And knowing how things tend to go this site probably isn't gonna recover completely from this. People always have different opinions and then those who do not agree go absolutely whack just because of said differences, I've never been too fond of that personally... All of you guys just need to chill out, alright? Ain't no point in getting worked up over the internet. I personally just ignore the world and go about my business. That way the crazy world doesn't make ME crazy.

@Thundergem2864

I agree with you. I come here to escape reality and relax, not be reminded of how horrible the world is.

The amount of people basically attacking others over their opinions here is frankly getting ridiculous too. Whenever someone states they don't like that there's political discussions on here, or state their opinion and it doesn't line up with the other users' opinions, they pretty much complain about them stating that they're "wrong" for feeling that way.

But here's the thing, is this site called the "Politics Resource"? No? How about the "Human Rights Resource"? Nope. It's called the "SPRITERS Resource". It's supposed to be about the art of video games, not either of those things. People come here for the sprites, not to see a giant political/human rights discussion on the main page. The fact this update doesn't even talk about what's added to this site in favor of a giant preachy message is pretty bizarre given that, again, this supposed to be a SPRITE website. Something like Facebook or Twitter would be better for something like that.

While I may get attacked or even banned for this, in my personal opinion the fact the admins here are forcing their political views/personal opinions on other users and WANT them to leave if their opinions don't fully line up with their own is pretty unprofessional, in my opinion. Questionable and borderline passive-aggressive comments about being on the "wrong side of history", and declaring users "racists" just for disagreeing with this being on here, even if they aren't racist, doesn't exactly help matters.

I'm well-aware I stated that I'm leaving for an indefinite period of time, and I still intend to do so BECAUSE of the strife in this community that I personally believe it will not completely recover from for a while, but again I felt like giving out my two cents on the whole matter.

This has gotten extremely out of hand on both sides and is exactly why politics and related matters on sites with forums and such are usually a bad idea. It opens a giant can of worms, causes strife and makes users hate or dislike each other.

Before I leave again though, let it be known that I DO NOT hate this site or anyone here, nor the admins, but I personally feel that this controversy is going to hurt this site's image in some ways.

I had a much bigger comment here, but I'm gonna leave you with this: I came here to escape reality, not to be reminded of it. I miss when this wasn't just TSR. When it was The Spriters Resource. The worst part is, it was The Spriters Resource until May 30, 2020. To all the staff at TSR, make this next update about sprites. We're not gonna make this place end up like MTV. To anyone who wrote how people were "wrong", let them have their opinion. Just because they don't agree with you, it doesn't mean that they don't matter. Wow. I even made it come full circle. I may delete this one also. I'm afraid of what the 53rd comment might be.

It's amazing to me that so many people see this as a political issue, not a human rights issue. More astonishing is the lack of empathy, regardless of what you see as the solution. Be good to each other, and take the time to listen to the people directly affected by this crisis. Choose the path of kindness.

I hate to agree with miyabi95 here, as instead of arguing, try spreading links to the bail funds around for protesters wrongly convicted, and help combat the misinformation spread by news outlets like FOX at large. (Why did you think "Attack and dethrone God" and SMT were trending?) It feels like I'm literally doing both at the same time and given me a headache...

Last word from me, then I'll bounce. The minutes you spend here trying to defend your opinions could be used towards helping BiPOC communities. You can do anything physically, digitally, or financially to support the BLM cause instead of arguing with people who refuse to acknowledge our society/government's fatal flaws. There's no changing selfish thoughts and behaviors, so I suggest you use your time for something more productive instead of flooding this site with pointless debates.
