Petie
Hey everyone! I feel like it's been quite a while since I've done one of these so I'm here to bring you just over 800 new sheets this week!

With so much new content, it's going to be tough to highlight individuals but I suppose a good place to start is with the customs. There are a bunch of new Mario customs among a handful of others for a total of 41 new submissions to the section this week which is always awesome to see!

Outside of the custom section, there's obviously plenty more so let's get started. The DS / DSi gets 105 new submissions with a ton from Castlevania (thanks to rufaswan's continued efforts) and also a bunch from Mario & Luigi: Bowswer's Inside Story (courtesy of Greiga Master and our very own Ton), and a few more from Super Robot Wars W and Kingdom Hearts to round everything out. Kingdom Hearts also appears in our mobile section (mayphelion) alongside Professor Layton (Luna16) and lots more so there's plenty to see there as well! And to finish off this random selection, the Nintendo Switch sees submissions to four of its games this week - Cadence of Hyrule (brought to us by RTB and Dazz), Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Dakress), Paper Mario: The Origami King (courtesy of a variety of people), and one more submission to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for quite the showing this week as well! That's really just a small sampling of what this update has to offer though so be sure to check out what interests you and perhaps pass on a thank you to those who ripped it!

Before I go though, I do want to quickly cover one important event that just recently happened. As I'm sure many of you are already aware, a large amount of confidential and sensitive data from Nintendo was recently leaked. This may sound hypocritical coming from us given the nature of the content on this site but we can't support or participate in the large-scale theft of intellectual property so we will not be accepting any submissions from this leaked data. It wasn't just images that were released - the full source code of various games and a bunch of other internal-only data is now out there and that goes way beyond what we do here, especially since many of those games are still available for purchase in one form or another directly from Nintendo. So, out of respect for their works as well as our time and yours, please do not submit anything obtained from these files - it will be rejected on-sight.

On that note though, that does it for this week's update! Be sure to check in next week for updates on all four sites and in the meantime, enjoy your weekend!

Edit: Because this has apparently gone wildly off the rails, let me make one thing crystal clear. Not accepting content from these leaks is not a moral issue. Respect for the private information included in the leak may be a small component here but the reality is, this data was obtained through a targeted and overtly illegal attack on Nintendo's servers and there is nothing gray about it. When I said we can't participate in large-scale theft, that's what I was referring to - the incredibly illegal nature of how this data was obtained. Nintendo has already been removing the content from other sites which should be evidence enough that it was a good call, for legal reasons, to not upload it here. Morality was never my primary reason for refusing this content - it was just a bonus at that point.

Unless Nintendo themselves decide to make those contents publicly available, but don't count on it.

@SuperMario123311: I repeat for the third time now -- the amount of time passed isn't going to suddenly make things from the Gigaleak "okay" to upload.

Is there a chance like, maybe a few years down the line - We may see sprites from the on this site? I understand why you aren't allowing them at the moment, and I won't advocate to try and change your minds at all. I'm just curious.

It’s not a glitch - that number includes deleted sheets as well. I originally planned on filtering them out but doing so made the page load painfully slow so I ignored it as it still gets the point across.

@MisterMike Maybe it's a glitch. Try contacting the staff and ask if there's something wrong with the system

@Barack Obama That's what I thought at first, but that can't be it because it doesn't match the number on my profile. On my profile it says I've submitted 383 sheets, whereas the number shown is 387. Now I've occasionally added to other sheets and put my name on them (the Paper Mario-styled Geno sheet for example), but surely those would've been added to the number of sheets I've submitted on my profile.

Sounds like the number of sheets that you've already submitted.

Quick question. So I just submitted a sheet and went to check on it in my unsubmitted sheets section. Everything's fine, but right next to where it shows my username there's this weird number. What does it mean?

No, the the theft of the assets that were leaked. Nintendo obviously isn't stealing their own content.

Nintendo has clearly done a fine job of preserving its own history for decades. The fact that these files exist at all is proof enough of that. If Nintendo wants them in the public, they can release them. In the meantime, we won't participate in their theft.

@Tsukiyomaru0 Because I'm sure nintendo totally wants to remember how they decided to make a sprite of luigi flipping off the viewer, yes.

No but on point if Nintendo wanted those assets to be released they would have meant for that to happen to begin with.

So, we letting Nintendo destroy its own history just like that? Because that's what is bound to happen... Hopefully DOESN'T happen, and someone archives it where Nintendo has no power.

Discussion of the leak on the forum is fine. Posting any of the actual content anywhere, including the forum, is not allowed.

@Nonesuchriver even though L is in fact real I don't think the models can be submitted to the site, though I would imagine discussing them could be allowed.

That one I think would be better answered by the staff with that said.

Also can these leaked models still be posted in the fourms or are they completely not allowed
While after some thinking You do have a point, this was stolen from nintendo. However I think in time as the original download links are taken down by nintendo and people reupload it rinse and repeat It will slowly kinda become okay. This is just my opinion regarding the morality of this kind of content.

I don't normally post on this part of the site because I'm mainly more active on the forums and discord but since usually things like the gigaleak usually are of interest of discussion for me, I think I'll chime in.

I read through the entire comments section and kind of weighed the varying opinions that have gone into this. But what Petie, RTB, Ton and several other staff members have already said regarding why anything from the gigaleak itself can't be posted on the main site itself are valid. This site is mainly for archival purposes of content that was already intended for public release that has been dumped on from either cartridges or discs that were already complied and compressed to begin with, and with a little luck sometimes things like Spaceworld 97 happen to pop up where the site is able to release the content of said game(s).

This is an entirely different situation because somehow, whether it's because someone managed to hack into Nintendo's database or something happened internally where the content of these sprites got leaked from the corporate side of things it's technically content that wasn't intended for public eyes. The methods in which that information has actually been obtained is vastly different from ripping from a game that's already been finalized.

That's where I don't think that people understand that it's a darker shade of gray to upload assets that were stolen directly from a company itself. That would be intellectual theft and that could easily get TVGR shut down. And while I understand where it's frustrating to see where people are angry about the said content not being uploaded here (and it's a little disappointing for me on my end because I always love seeing creative process stuff) at the same time the staff is actually in the right here to not post these because of the legal complications that go into that. With that being said I don't mind using my internet sleuthing to find the content elsewhere on the internet since people are bound to re-upload said content all over.

Issue is that everybody who downloaded will back it up anyway. Once anything is uploaded to the internet, it's never going away.

I've got it on google drive. And no, I won't link it. Someone has the link to it in Twitter. It's important to not link the dev's private information, it's important if I kept it myself, even if it's wrong. Why would anyone want to do this?
